Poole Pottery 2000's Galleon Figure


An attractive white earthenware Galleon figure based on a design by Harold Stabler and decorated in predominantly blue / green colours.

Dating: 1998 - 2017

Shape: A 10½" (27cm) tall model of a galleon. Introduced in 1998 this is a re-interpretation of Harold Stabler's iconic 1925 figure that was adopted as the unofficial symbol of the pottery.

Design: Poole Studio was revived in 1995 to produce one-off or limited edition pieces by skilled designers, such as Sally Tuffin, Janice Tchalenko, Karen Brown, Alan White, Alan Clarke, Nikki Massarella and Tony Morris. Following the factory closure in 2006 a descendent of this unit continued in the Quay shop until final closure in 2017.

Backstamp: Printed "POOLE ENGLAND" on the base in a lozenge. This backstamp was used from 1974 onwards.

Painter: Signed by the paintress Lorna Whitmarsh, who has worked at Poole since 1989.

Condition: Excellent condition
