Poole Pottery 1970's Atlantis Vase Beatrice Bolton


An unusual red earthenware Atlantis vase decorated with an abstract pattern in a heavily applied oxide glaze.

Dating: 1970 - 1972

Shape: A small bulbous vase 3¾" (9½cm) tall. This is shape number A5/1.

Design: Atlantis pieces were made by the craft section under the supervision of Guy Sydenham from 1969. Each piece was thrown and decorated by the same potter in a studio environment. From 1972 the shapes were standardised to allow restocking by retailers.

Backstamp: Impressed "POOLE ENGLAND" on the base with a backstamp that has been in use since 1930.

Painter: Impressed with a mark by thrower and decorator Beatrice (Bea) Bolton, who worked alongside Guy Sydenham on the Atlantis section from 1970 - 1974.

Condition: Excellent condition. Some original pattern imperfections.
