Poole Pottery 1970's Atlantis Vase Guy Sydenham


A lovely little Atlantis vase, hand thrown and modelled in Terracotta with a glaze finished design by the reknowned Guy Sydenham.

Dating: 1973 - 1976

Shape: A small bulbous vase 4" (10cm) tall, inscribed with shape number A5/1 to the base.

Design: Atlantis pieces were made by the craft section under the supervision of Guy Sydenham from 1969. Each piece was thrown and decorated by the same potter in a studio environment. From 1972 the shapes were standardised to allow restocking by retailers.

Backstamp: Impressed "POOLE ENGLAND" on the base. This backstamp was used between 1973 and 1976.

Painter: Guy Sydenham was the legendary Poole Pottery thrower and designer who became the driving force of the 1960's and 1970's Studio, including launching the Atlantis range. He originally joined in 1946 and was instrumental in developing the iconic shapes of the 1950's onwards until his resignation in 1977. He continued working in his own studio potteries at Long Island, Green Island and Portland until his death in 2005.

Condition: Very good condition. Some minor imperfections.
