A classic hand-thrown white earthenware vase from the Freeform period decorated with an Alfred Read 1950's contemporary design on alpine white glaze.
Dating: 1955 - 1958
Shape: A small 4¾" (12cm) vase with a shape derived from John Adam's designs of the 1930's. Maximum diameter 5" (13cm). Impressed with shape number 185.
Design: Decorated with elaborate contemporary pattern E/PLT, designed by Alfred Read in 1954. Painted in soluble colours of Tropic Turquoise, Purbeck Grey and Smoke.
Backstamp: Printed "POOLE ENGLAND" on the base together with the Poole dolphin. Backstamp 39 was used between 1955 and 1959.
Painter: Signed D by the paintress Diane Holloway who worked at Poole from 1952 - 1958
Condition: Excellent condition. Small original glaze miss to one green panel as shown in picture 2.
