Poole Pottery 1920's CSA Traditional Jug


A rare early traditional red earthenware jug in a variation of the popular Portuguese Stripe pattern.

Dating: 1922 - 1924

Shape: A 4¾" (12 cm) tall jug inscribed with shape number 321.

Design: Decorated with an elaborate multi-coloured version of the Portuguese stripe pattern originated by James Radley Young. Marked with pattern code X to base.

Backstamp: Impressed CARTER STABLER ADAMS, POOLE, ENGLAND. This backstamp was used between 1921 and 1924 when CSA became a limited company.

Painter: Signed with a mark by the paintress Margaret Atkins who worked at Poole from 1922 - 1924.

Condition: Very good condition for age. Some crazing and old chips to base which look to be glazed in.
