Poole Pottery 1950's Contemporary Vase

An elegant carafe shaped vase, featuring an Alfred Read contemporary pattern on an alpine white glaze.

Dating: 1953 - 1955

Shape: A 10" (25cm) carafe shaped vase, with a maximum diameter of 5" (13cm). Impressed with shape number 690.

Design: Decorated with contemporary pattern YCB, designed by Alfred Read in 1953 and withdrawn in 1958. Painted in soluble colours of Purbeck grey and Bracken.

Backstamp: Printed "HAND MADE, HAND DECORATED" and "POOLE ENGLAND" on the base together with the Poole dolphin. Backstamp 37 was used between 1952 and 1955.

Painter: There is no painter mark.

Condition: Excellent condition apart from a small flake on the rim, as shown in second picture.
