A striking unglazed red earthenware Atlantis vase with an intricate glazed design deeply carved into the body.

Dating: 1973 - 1976

Shape: A 7¼" (18cm) tall vase with a maximum diameter of 4½" (12cm), inscribed with shape number A11/1 to the base.

Design: Atlantis pieces were made by the craft section under the supervision of Guy Sydenham from 1969. Each piece was thrown and decorated by the same potter in a studio environment. From 1972 the shapes were standardised to allow restocking by retailers.

Backstamp: Impressed "POOLE ENGLAND" on the base with backstamp 53, which was used between 1973 and 1976.

Painter: Thrown and decorated by Catherine Connett, with her monogram impressed to base. Catherine worked on the Atlantis range from 1973 - 1976.

Condition: Very good condition. There are one or two stray glaze marks, as shown.
