Poole Pottery 1950's "Tropicana" Plate


A striking 1950's Freeform period version of a 1920's pattern, hand painted on white earthenware in a pallette of brown, green, lilac and yellow.

Dating: 1958 - 1959

Shape: A round 10" (25cm) plate.

Design: Decorated with pattern HF, a stylised portrait of a classical girl. Oriignally a 1920's Olive Bourne design this version was re-interpreted by Ann Read in 1958 and named "Tropicana".

Backstamp: Printed "POOLE ENGLAND" on the base together with the Poole dolphin. Backstamp 39 was used between 1955 and 1959.

Painter: Signed with a mongram by the paintress Betty Gooby, who worked at Poole from 1950 - 1959

Condition: Excellent condition.
