Poole Pottery 1920's Large Fruit Bowl HV Pattern


An unusual and substantial red earthenware fruit bowl decorated with a colourful and rarely found floral sprig pattern.

Dating: 1924 - 1934

Shape: A large bowl measuring 12" (30cm) x 9½" (24cm) and 2" (5cm) deep.

Design: Decorated with pattern HV, a traditional art-deco floral and grapes sprig design by Truda Carter.

Backstamp: Unusually there is no pottery backstamp, although other factors confirm provenance.

Painter: Signed with a monogram by the paintress Dorothy James, who worked at Poole between 1924 and 1935.

Condition: Very good condition for age. Some crazing and stray glaze marks. Unusually base is glazed all over.
